Who it's for
Anyone living in a Spanish municipality who needs to prove their address.
Who CAN'T apply for it
- If you have no fixed address at all, you can't register through the standard procedure — you'd need to go through the town hall's social services for a 'domicilio ficticio' (address of convenience) arrangement.
- If you live with someone unwilling to authorize you in writing and you have no utility bill in your own name at that address, you need an alternative proof (work contract, a child's school certificate, a social services report) that varies by town hall.
Typical documentation
Valid passport or ID document
The document you identify yourself with; it must be valid, not expired.
Rental contract or property deed
If it's not in your name, you'll also need the owner's written authorization together with their ID document.
Recent proof of address
A utility bill (electricity, water...) from the last few months, in your name or the property owner's.
Completed application form

Can I register without a rental contract in my name?
Yes, if the property holder authorizes you in writing and provides their ID document. Without that authorization, you need a utility bill in your own name at that address, even if you're not the contract holder.
Do I need legal status to register on the padrón?
No. The padrón is a municipal register, not an immigration procedure — anyone living in the municipality can register, whether or not they have legal residence.
How much does registration cost?
Registration itself is free. Some town halls charge for issuing extra certificates — check your specific town hall's fees.
