Who it's for
Anyone with legal residence in Spain (working, dependent on a family member, or not contributing) who doesn't have their health card yet.
Who CAN'T apply for it
- If you don't yet have legal residence in Spain, the standard health card procedure doesn't apply to your case — it varies a lot by town hall and region, so we review it with you directly. Even so, minors, pregnancy or childbirth, and emergencies are always covered regardless of legal status.

Do I need to be contributing to Social Security to get a health card?
No. Since 2018, the right to public healthcare depends on legal residence, not on contributing. You can apply even if you're not working.
How much does the health card cost?
Nothing. Both the recognition of the right, handled by the INSS, and issuing the physical card, handled by your autonomous community, are free.
What if I don't have legal residence yet?
Minors, pregnancy and childbirth, and emergencies are always covered, whether or not you have legal residence. For everything else without legal residence, the procedure varies a lot depending on where you live — message us and we'll look into it.
